Why don't tech writers participate more in FOSS projects?

1. The number of software technical writers is smaller than the number of software developers, so the talent pool is smaller. (See the various posts in the archives on ratios of developers to tech writers.)



2. The proportion of technical writers who love technical writing is smaller than the proportion of software developers who love writing software, so the "passion pool" is even smaller. (As someone else pointed out, we are much more likely to devote our off time to other types of writing, if we write at all.)
