That and narrowing the applicant field so HR directors don't get
overwhelmed are the two major uses I've seen here.

I would pick recruiters very carefully. Many are as described below,
and I will never work with such abject morons again. If you put down
that you can make a website on the resume, that's where their eyes
stop, and no matter how many times you repeat "I am a technical writer"
they will attempt to send you to web development jobs.

There are a few, and when you find them hold on to them, who are
intelligent enough to act otherwise and actually try to figure out what
the candidate is good at and then find a company match.

I've known four so far, two men and two women, and I'd do a lot for
them because they save me from the database search dummies who want to
hire me out as an HTML jockey.
