I see the question of "showing up" in terms of the new generation's
(lack of) commitment to following through in whatever context, not of
brick&mortar vs. virtual office.

Being of the first cohort of Gen Xers, I can identify with the new
generation in that I've only ever worked with technology. I also value
work/life balance to the extent that I am, by choice, on a shorter
workweek for shorter salary. Nevertheless, I hold to my responsibility
of getting the job done i.e., showing up. But, of course, I'm not
exactly the new generation.

Hey, I'm not liking that "showing up" thingie, at least not as a

If the new technologies permit me to do my job on a laptop sitting out
in a field with my goats and I can prove productivity in that setting,
why shouldn't I be allowed to do that?
