Most high-end digital cameras offer a variety of output formats, but only
the highest offer TIFF. My Canon 40D can output high-resolution JPEG or RAW
formats. I use the RAW format when I'm out shooting the "creative" stuff and
JPEGs for my commercial work (technical documentation, Web page images, and
such). I always have my camera set for this highest resolution and I never
use the master, working only with copies. (JPEGs are a lossy format.). Would
I use a TIFF format if my camera offer it, probably not as the resolution of
the JPEGs are far superior than most documentation requirements, and the RAW
format is the only way to go for total image control.
