RE: Use of 'populate'

The use of XML-based applications to extract and format information from
databases will only increase this "population growth". The only time I
use "populate" is to refer to the automatic pre-filling of info - such
as a customer's name and address etc. in the fields on an electronic
form or page.

Populate is also used extensively on the software side to describe the
automatic entry of information into data fields (or filling in the data
fields) of a window or page.
