One must be infected with the desire (or is it a disease?) to do
copyediting. It must be a compulsion, and must happen naturally, in the
course of reading. One needn't be quite as compulsive over other aspects
of editing, but the desire to Make It Right must be there.
For editors, Wikipedia is a blessing (look at all that stuff that needs
to be fixed, needs my careful attention) and a curse (I don't have the
time to fix it all, but I've gotta fix this one article now; lunch can
wait).
