I don't find anything wrong with "Technical Writer" either - in fact I think it has a nice "ring" to it. I'm proud when I reply to people who ask me what I do for a living. It usually sparks some questions and conversation along the lines of "what do you write about?" which "breaks the ice" if I'm talking to someone I don't know well.
That being said "Information Developer" sounded cool when I first read it, but upon reflection, it sounds contrived.

I LIKE having the title "Technical Writer." That's what I do. I write
with words and pictures.
