I've had better experience. Every position I've had as
an individual contributer correctly predicted the amount
of extra hours required (usually, up to an hour a day over
eight and periodic episodes of insanity in the two or three
weeks preceding a major product release). It was only
when I moved into management that insane hours became
the norm.
