I use ScreenHunter 5.0. It is free and you can take full screen captures or
selected captures with a rectangular tool. The free version doesn't do all
the neat things that Snag It does. I am fond of Snag It,  but I have found
ScreenHunter really works well for my documentation purposes.

Just my two cents.
