This philosophy seems similar to the concepts behind William Edwards
Deming's philosophy of management for productivity that contributed to Total
Quality Management.  TQM has been successfully employed by large
corporations, but it seems to have limits when there are major market
shifts. It also requires cooperation from all employees, so individuality of
people can get a little lost and some people may not enjoy that sort of work
environment.

Land's philosophy is also similar to the management used in small start-up
companies during the dot-com era (that's only 10 years ago, so "era"?).
This philosophy seems to require a lot of luck and opportunity for its
success.
