Susan Jelus wondered: <<We have a problem with a bloated MS Word 2003
file. We have tried all the standard tricks, such as deleting the
last paragraph symbol and copying everything into a new Word file.
The documentation has about 40 screen captures in it. But is at
least 4 times the size of other, similar files.>>

A few additional thoughts: Check the Save tab of the Options dialog
to ensure that "Fast Saves" has been disabled. That leads to file
bloat. Open the File menu and select Versions; if any versions have
been saved, save a backup copy of the file (in case you should need
those versions in the future), then delete them.

If the manuscript has been edited using revision tracking, then
revisions of the figures would also be tracked. Select all the text
and "accept all" revisions from the Reviewing toolbar.

If the graphics were imported in a previous version of Word, they may
not have been converted efficiently into the new version of Word, so
deleting and then reimporting all the graphics should help.
