Kevin,

This happens all the time. Recently, a recruiter could not understand why I wasn't willing to move to Denver for a 3 month contract for half what I'm making now in Chicago.

My favorite story along these lines was an ad I saw in the newspaper for a company who demanded Framemaker, Dreamweaver, Flash and Office experience, but was only willing to pay $8.00/hour. I thought it was a typo. It turned out that they were serious.

Hiya list...

Just wanted to share an anecdote from the last couple of days, as it's happened
to me several times and I'm guessing I'm not alone.

I got a cold-call about a contract opportunity from an agency. They are looking
for someone with many years of experience, someone who can lead a team...and
who has a great knowledge of XML, HTML, etc etc etc. Clearly, they are looking
for a senior writer. However, when I gave them my rate, they balked and said
that they could only pay about a third of that.

I don't want to get into the specific numbers, but the rate is what I have
charged at past contracts without a problem...and their suggested rate would
really be for an entry-level person, IMO.

Obviously, we wont' be moving forward on it...but I'm curious if anyone else
has met these kind of dramatically unrealistic salary expectations before? It's
a bit maddening!

Kevin
