Simplified English has its roots in the European aerospace and defense
industries. It's not surprising that some of its dictates are
counter-intuitive for a native speaker, but that doesn't detract from
its original purpose. Apparently, "make sure" is preferred by
translators and other localizers -- at least in Europe.
