Hmm, a new forum entitled "Tech Writers and Divorce: A How-To Guide". I
imagine a lot of us could toss in some advice there! (The stories alone
would be book worthy.)

This year (back in April), I made the decision to NOT take a new contract
gig and go for something a little more recession-proof. Permanent, somewhat
boring, full-time job. As it stands now, I see former employers and
contractors (especially in the Financial field) cutting drastically. I know
my last contract would have died a merciless death in the light of these
last few weeks.

Earlier advice about looking carefully at contract details is Key! There are
many companies that will run you to the end of a contract and not allow you
to come back for a period of time. Normally, you get hired before this
happens, but as many companies are finalizing/have finished/will be
budgeting for life in a recession? I'd dare say Perm hires are going to be
the exception.

Government work is great long-term employment. If you can, take side-gigs to
augment your income while building a future.

Best of luck! I'm about to go into my 3rd marriage as well...heheh. Divorce
sucks, but it is *not* the hardest thing you could do. In the meantime, I
hope things work out for you!
