Well, in principle, I agree. I prefer knowing more to knowing less and
owning more books to owning fewer. But in practice, when you put
multiple style guides to use, you end up with multiple conflicting
answers to your questions.

Which puts you right back in the position of having to decide for
yourself. Which, come to think of it, some of us rather like. :-)

The nice thing about standards is that there are so many of them
to choose from.
