I use Syntext Serna. More lightweight, not as friendly as XMetal. Much cheaper. In fact, they have a free version: http://syntext.com/products/serna-free/index.htm

Bonne chance

Chris

Subject: Replacement for XMetal

Hi, guys...being between gigs has plenty of downsides. However, an
upside is the ability to spend periods uninterrupted polishing your
skills.

For the last 3 weeks I've been immersed in InDesign and feel I'm at
the point where I could turn out a document. I'm now turning my
attention back to XML/DITA.

While at EMC, I spent over a year working in that environment.
However, not being there any longer, I don't have access to that
authoring environment.

So, I'm asking the collective...what software out there most
replicates the XMetal experience without also replicating the cost?

I have FM. I do know that it implements things a little differently,
However, the way it implements XML/DITA, is it seen by those who need
a writer with XML/DITA experience as being close enough?

BTW...does anyone know what the current upgrade price from FM7.1 to
the current is?
