Hi Y.

I don't have much to offer in the way of references sepcifically about
writing training manuals. eventhough I write a lot of them, I've always
just done it. My best advice would be to lay hands on as many
manuals/workbooks/participant guides etc. as you can. Pick out the stuff
you like and model it in your own work. Of course making sure what you like
will be useful for your audience would be nice, too.

I will say this: start with solid, well-thought-out objectives. Know
specifically what you want the users to know or be able to do by the end of
the training and then focus like a laser beam on exactly what they will
need to meet those objectives. Look up Bloom's Taxonomy for help in writing
objectives.

Also the trainer-types on the list might be able to offer better advice if
we knew a little bit more about your task. for example, is it a reference
work for the student? A workbook of exercises to complete in an
instructor-lead classroom? Is it companion to e-learning? A self-paced
workbook? Participant guide for a webinar?

Cheers!

-Greg
