Totally agreed, Connie. The interesting thing about this one was that it came not from any of these sites but from a regular weekly posting on a journalist list I subscribe to. This was a striking divergence from the legitimate jobs that typically comprise the rest of the post.

Jim,

They don't want specialized knowledge, they want throwaway articles for third-rate websites... there are literally thousands of these kinds of projects on the top freelance sites. Spend any time on guru, elance or odesk and you will see tons of these posted every day. I quickly learned ignore any projects that have any kind of number, the words "articles" or "SEO" and rewrite in the title .... they all tend to indicate this kind of project, where you can supposedly make money by changing enough words of an existing article to pass copyscape. And this is precisely what I mean by having to hunt for decent projects posted by legitimate businesses looking for quality content. You really have to learn to dig.

Freelancing is not an easy life, especially right now. Techwhirlers better off using their professional network, and building a well-optimized online profile to get the kind of jobs they deserve--rather than this junk.
Subscribe to the sites (I do), but remember that you will see 50 posts for jobs like these for every really good project.

Quite so! $25 per item is pathetically laughable.

My stepbrother does this for Wall Street and commands a six-figure annual income!

The $25 rate, as I'm sure you'll agree is ludicrous for such specialized knowledge. Maybe some the Wall Street down-and-outers should apply; that way they can get a taste of their own dog food.
