And a general question:

If the majority of members gain benefit from, and would indeed like
to participate in a broader range of topics, wouldn't that be a good
thing? (Not dog food, or chemistry, but tools and technology related
to being a tech writer...)

It's not productive to -- each time a question comes up about, for
example, VOIP packages -- find an appropriate forum for that subject.
And the writers here are people who we've come to respect and whose
opinions we've come to appreciate. Not some anonymous persons that
come up in a Google search.)
