Without meaning to offend anyone, I doubt if most folks could describe a failure in the water delivery system in their house, the various failure modes possible with the heating units in the workplaces, or an electrical failure in the neighborhood other than saying, "the X (plumbing, furnace, powerline) is broken."

This is no big deal, as everyone seems to be getting on fine when they DO work, and they know who to contact when they need help.

Again, without meaning to offend, I've always found the "I can't believe everyone doesn't know what I know" conversations to be just a little smug, and perhaps inappropriately elitist.

It is also a good thing that not everything knows what we know -- otherwise we'd ALL be out of work.
