Hard to get a picture of what you're talking about.

It looks like you're talking about a "centerline" or "midline," as
someone else suggested.

Are you trying to describe a line or a point? Sounds like a line.
(Sounds like you're trying to instruct them to do something or place
something or drill "along the centerline.")

PS - I don't know if this drawing is any better:

-------------------- outside edge

==================== centerline

-------------------- outside edge

HI Everyone,

I am trying to find a simple way to refer to the location exactly center
of an area, looking below:

------------------------------- outside defining edge of solid area

===================== this is the center of the solid area (or plane, or
whatever)

-------------------------------- outside defining edge of solid area

Currently we are using the word 'midpoint' but this is defined as "A
point equidistant from the ends of a line or the extremities of a
figure" - since this is not strictly true, how would you define this?

"halfway between"

"center of the plane"
