The default language for addressing international correspondence? French
... if you are living in the 19th century!

I believe the default language for addressing international
correspondence is French. English is also quite acceptable. People in
China with whom I have done business always supply me with a return
address written in an English transliteration of the Chinese, as well as

providing the Chinese characters for the name and address, which I
generally cannot read except for the word for "China."
