Here's another interesting twist. You can set up a section of a wiki
as merely an output format from some other authoring system. By
default revisions will not be tracked, because any changes will be
overwritten by subsequent updates from the source. However, there are
probably ways to integrate a process for merging the information from
changed topics before cutting a new version.

I've heard of this done between DITA 2 Confluence Wiki. The only real
task is to automate the structural formatting from the authoring
environment to the wiki's markup language.
