Just for the record, I found my current job (API documentation and
consumer electronics product manuals and editing lots of random internal
docs) through a Craigslist posting. And had interviews for two other
real jobs through similar postings.

Maybe it is different in Washington DC, and definitely it was different
four years ago. There are still plenty of obvious ripoffs and bad jobs
on Craigslist. There were then, there are now.

In this area there are still lots of postings for tech writers and
business analysts for government contracts, and even some government
positions (for which competition is fierce these days). If you want to
write proposals, that's always available. If you have a clearance,
things are pretty easy. I see more postings for preposterously low
salaries, but that's just people trying to fill reqs cheaply. It won't

I know things are different elsewhere, but I can only report what I see
