This and the post for "Stop Sign Design" reminded me of Jean-Luc Doumont's
"Road signs -- Finding your way in the visual world" presentation,

I attended it at the Atlanta STC conference a couple of years ago, and he
gives it somewhat routinely to various STC conferences. I highly recommend
attending it, and especially his workshop on Visual Design! (His website
