Here is my low-IT approach to accomplishing global standardization.

- We leave alone.

- We standardize the User Templates and Startup file locations on each
installation of Word.

- We have document templates that contain style definitions, initial
content, appropriate autotext entries, and keyboard shortcuts
appropriate to the template (e.g. Ctrl + Shift + N applies BodyText, not

- We have toolset templates (a.k.a. global add-ins) that contain all our
workspace customizations, global keyboard shortcuts, and work macros.

To distribute a new issue of the templates and toolset, I zip them into
self-extracting files -- one for the toolset add-ins and one for the
document templates.

I put these on our LAN or intranet where all the writers can access
them. The self-extracting files unzip over top of older versions of
templates and add-ins.

I notify the writers by e-mail when a new issue is available.
