To mix or not to mix logical and traditional punctuation in a single document?

I use logical (British) quotation punctuation in my docs when I am
referring literally to values. For example...

 

> Select the field, and then enter "I am a pretty pony". 

 

For the sake of consistency, I have also been using the British
convention for everything else. For example...

 

> If you entered, "I am a pretty pony", you may want to consider
psychiatric treatment.

 

Is this sensible, or have a fallen victim to "a foolish consistency
[that] is the hobgoblin of small minds"?
