For what it's worth, I was just promoted to "Senior Technical Writer - Project Lead" effective March 1 after being here less than 12 months. And no matter what anyone says, I deserve it.

My co-writer is a good friend whom I've known for 30 years this summer. But his writing skills and work ethic are sorely lacking and I do far, far more than he does. But he lobbied to get me hired and I was out of work, so I'm thankful. I've worked with him now for just under a year and whew!

In better times, be friends with your co-workers, but "don't work with your friends". (He and I are friends due to common automobile and some other interests, but our work habits and dedication are w-a-a-y different.)

I always thought the Principal was the chief contact for a self-run
consulting firm (or a school). But as Richard stated, Senior implies
experience, and Principal implies role.

For example, I worked at one company where we were assigned the role of
Prime for specific projects.

I've always held respect for my Seniors, but shot spitballs at my Principal.
How's that for a difference in principle?
