FYI -- Rick Quatro of Carmen Publishing wrote a FrameScript script to solve
the marker problem (e.g. search for markers and move them to beginning or
end of word). Rick has posted the script at:
http://frameautomation.com/2010/03/20/move-markers-to-the-beginning-of-words
/

I found Rick's posting in response to my post on this topic on Linked In
under the "Friends of FrameMaker" Group.

before translation

Over the past 15 years while working for translation/localization vendors,
I've seen the same problems in unstructured FrameMaker files over and over
again. Seemingly innocent document features like markers in mid-word, or
even forced UPPER CASE text display from the paragraph designer can cause
problems, increasing project time and expense.

I've posted two blogs that list the 10 most common problems we encounter in
unstructured FrameMaker. (There were 40 to 50 common problems to choose
from.) I would welcome feedback on other problems you may have encountered.
I will be creating a blog in the near future on things to avoid when
creating DITA with FrameMaker, before translation.

You can read the blogs at:

Enjoy!
