I'm sure this "jot list" idea is akin to something I experience all the
time, where I go to ask someone a question and I'm able to answer it as
soon as the words leave my mouth. I attribute this to the fact of having
to organize certain nebulas information I have in my head into a
question, which then "crystallizes" into something that provides me the
answer.

I do it sometimes too and as I said in an earlier response to his
thread, it is not disagreeing with the method of first 'knowing what it
is' - this is simply using written expression to help clarify things.

Some other posters talked about this use of a 'jot list' and one poster
referred to a pdf that was prepared by the Plain English Campaign.
