I have edited books (novels) for several people. It never entered my mind to
charge them. One was my husband. Another was my best friend. Another was a
pretty good friend but fairly far down the list. I found it interesting to see
what these people wrote. And I did it in my spare time. Mostly I noted typos and
marked things I found confusing.

The guy who I said was a pretty good friend is an artist. He eventually printed
up four illustrated copies of the book and bound them by hand. He bound them
with leather with metal thingies holding the pages in. He engraved the metal
thingies by hand (I know there's a name for them but I don't know what it is).
These books are priceless as far as I'm concerned. Needless to say, I was
awarded one of the copies.
