Who had the brilliant idea that English, even very simple words, was
unacceptable and must not be used, and that instead only obscure
hieroglyphic drawings should appear? On occasion I have found equipment
for which the user manual consists entirely of crazy drawings that make
sense only to those who have already used the equipment successfully.

As for Norwegian symbols, skriva bukken paa bokmaal eller paa nynorsk?
There would have to be a separate set of symbols for each. Or simply let
a contract out to the Swedish goats at Ikea and hope that the Norwegians
would not deliberately misunderstand the result.
