Eric,

A colleague of mine, Bette Frick, has developed an incredible
presentation called "That's a Good Question" which is exactly along
these lines - nurturing young writers to learn how to ask good questions
and also teaching more advanced writers how to hone their skills even
more. I think that this might have been published as an article in an
issue of the Intercom magazine for the STC. Let me know if you are a
member or not, and if not, I can search the archives for you and provide
you the article. I am also cc:ing Bette on this email as she might also
be able to point you in the right direction more quickly than I could.

I highly recommend the article.

All,

I was coaching a relatively new college hire the other day on asking
good questions and communicating effectively, and thought it might be
good to get other perspectives.

I tend to point folks to
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
, which
is spot-on IMHO, but pretty harsh and not exactly er....nurturing.

How do you coach junior writers (or anyone, for that matter) to ask
better questions?

Eric
