"Documentalist" has been around longer than most people on this list (as
have I), and has a respectable pedigree in engineering and research. But it
isn't the same as technical writer or communicator.



"Tech writer" is fine but has connotations of a nameless shape who sits in
the corner and does weird stuff. And, I think, deservedly so.



Me, I'm hiring technical communicators to help me build our corporate
knowledge base -- because what I expect from them is not "writing", but
communication.
