It is certainly and explicitly possible to search across multiple PDFs
in Acrobat, and all the files do not need to be open. It is also
possible to index PDFs within Acrobat for faster searching. Without the
full version of Acrobat, you could consider another search tool, such as
Windows Search or Google Desktop, as a way to search across multiple
PDFs -- and multiple other file types.

Jim

Subject: Searching across multiple pdf files

Good morning Tech Whirlers -

I have googled the answer to this question but I felt those with
experience may be able to offer me their experiential knowledge.
The situation is: users need to locate information spread across
multiple pdfs.

Is it possible to search across multiple pdf files using Adobe Reader?
And if so, do all the pdf files need to be open? Does this function work
with Adobe Acrobat?
Another possible solution would be to merge the TOCs of the pdfs. Does
anyone know if this is possible?

Any insights appreciated.

Bobbi
