The turkey's dead. I realized it was only happening in a single
spreadsheet. I copied all, pasted to a new spreadsheet, saved with the
same name, and the problem's gone. Now we'll never know.

The text "160-0008-02, H0110" appears regardless of what I typed or what
was previously in the cell. I'm thinking gremlins.

Are you sure that is not what you typed before clearing the cell? My
