I read all e-books on my Mac laptop using the free 'Kindle-for-Mac' software. There's an equivalant 'Kindle-for-PC' app I believe.

You can convert your ebooks to virtually any device using Calibre and a few plug-ins. See the following link - strictly to be used for legal purposes, I hasten to add.
