Thanks again to all who send suggestions. Bill Swallow gets the prize for supplying a term that precisely describes what I needed to describe, and which is acceptable to the audience: detail block. And thanks to several others whose contributions and perspective will help me talk to the audience in more effective terms about adaptive and context-sensitive guided data entry and web experiences.

Those of you who are U.S. taxpayers will be happy to know that this bureau automated exact copies of the paper forms quite a while ago, using then-current technology, and accepts them electronically. They no longer accept paper forms except under a small specific set of unusual circumstances.

The are doing business process re-engineering, and expect to come up with a more flexible process that does the job previously done by the forms in a manner that is more efficient for industry users and permits the internals to examine and approve or reject submissions in a more flexible and faster way.
