NO!! Do not set "Automatically update document styles"!!! Otherwise every
time
someone applies direct changes to a paragraph then the template gets
updated. You don't want that.
When standardizing word templates, you are going to encounter file locking
errors if anyone on the network has the shared template open when you try
to update them.
Here is what works:
- Create and update your templates locally.
- Duplicate your templates with released changes into a shared folder.
- Have all staff to copy the template files into their own templates
folder. It helps if IT is on board. IT can run a script to enure the most
recent template version is on the user's HDD when the user logs in.
- Build all your documents from the template located in your local folder.
The reference will update to the user's local folder when the user opens
the document.
This ensures you maintain template integrity and are the sole source of
changes.
