In my case, it's become such a regular event, either me leaving a job (most common) or a job leaving me, that I just tell them the truth, that I joined another start-up and had a couple of good years before their business plan self-destructed on them. Since eight out of ten tech start-ups fail within the first 3-5 years of their founding, nobody is ever surprised to hear that.
