For most of what I have done with photos, PhotoShop is overkill. MS PhotoDraw worked great with the cutting the item out of the background and was a much lighter product. But PhotoDraw has become hard to get. Most ends up simply being contract and brightness changes along with cropping and resizing that almost any product can do.

Illustrator is also overkill. But Paint is too simple and too limited.

Does a technical writer really need Photoshop? Maybe Elements for

overkill.

Another big PS user here. Not for typical "Photoshopping" or even graphics adjustment - I often use it for pixel by pixel updates to icons, I have a series of actions set up so I can quickly make adjustments to highlighted areas on a black/white screen capture. It is my graphic editor of choice.

I'll also have no problem continuing to use the Photoshop version that came with the last TCS version... I don't need the new bells & whistles that they add to newer versions, I just need the basics that have been with Photoshop since back with version 3.0. Am I upset it's no longer in the TCS? A bit. But I'll get by just fine with my current version.
