I wouldn't expect an employer to argue otherwise, but like just about everything else (free food and smartphones?), these things are negotiable. All other things being equal, I would go with the company for which I could work from home (as needed).

I doubt the price of gas matters that much. From what I've read, those are considered the costs you pay for having a job. It costs money to work.

It'll be an interesting experiment. With ever increasing fuel costs, we'll have to keep an eye on how long it lasts.
