Gene's so right on that Solidworks description...... As for Word slowing
down. I used to copy/paste a couple of times, then save the file under a
different name....such as TEMP1. Then I'd close the existing file and open
up TEMP1 and repeat the Copy/Paste process. I don't know why, be it seemed
to keep things from slowing to a crawl and if I ended up corrupting the
file, I could always go back one version and pick up where I left off. When
I was all done, I would save the file using the original file name and add
-20140410 (or the date using the format yyyymmdd) and erase all the TEMP
versions.

You're not just copying and pasting, you're converting one document format
into another. If you think this is slow, try outputting an IGES file from a
Solidworks model sometime.
