No matter what you do, a PDF of a document will always seem longer to a reader than a printed version of the same document. Part of this is that the printed document has a physical presence that provides the reader with a visceral "feel" for how large it is, while the electronic version just has "Page 1 of ..." Also, it's easy-peasy for anyone to jump round in a printed document; you just stick little Post-Its on the different sections, number them in the order you need to use them and you're good to go. No need to learn how to use SW to create and use bookmarks.

The most effective way to make these PDFs seem less "page heavy?" Customized small instructions for the most common combinations of instructions. That's right, MORE pages.
