I once tried to install a trial version of Adobe FrameMaker, directly from
Adobe's Web site, and their installer completely hosed my Windows 7
computer. For a while it seemed that my computer would not even boot up,
but I was eventually able to find a way to boot and roll back to a previous
state. Later I discovered that Adobe had experienced a security breach
around that time. I don't know if the problems I had with the Framemaker
trial install were related to the security breach.

One of the very weird things was that the trial installer installed several
entire IDEs. The only way that I was able to stop the installer was to do a
hard reboot. I got on the phone with Adobe to complain about this, and of
course the person I talked to had trouble believing me. It *was* hard for
*me* to believe what was happening right in front of me.

I pretty much fixed the problem myself with minimal data loss.
