Except for a stint at Telcordia, I've always been in cubicle land. The
worst it ever got was a contract job, when I didn't even have a cubicle. I
had half of a table that was a cubicle wide. Oh, and a file cabinet.
At Telcordia, I shared an actual OFFICE. Concrete block walls (reminded me
of my college dorm). A solid door. And my office mate was a quiet guy. I
was pretty productive on that job, and I think the quality of my work was
better, also. How I miss that! Most of what I overhear these days (I sit in
the middle of the team I support) isn't really useful to what I'm doing,
but it is very, very distracting.
I suppose I should be grateful I even have a cube that's only mine. And
this one has loads of storage space, including a little closet so I have
someplace to hang up my coat.
