I do the same as Yves.

However, I'm attempting to get of the summary line, e.g., "20 File(s)
12,953,912 bytes" in the original list file, before Excel ever sees it.

This comes very close, but it's not quite there: *DIR /S /A:-D* *<target>* *>
LIST.TXT*
