Hi,

Here's another one that I'm having a big problem with, maybe you can help.

Running PDF shared reviews hosted on an internal server, and the server is kind of legacy and slow.

These manuals are huge -- 2500 pages, the current review has ~5,300 comments, and the full file size is close to 300 MB.

I'm having a tough time opening and dealing with comments in this.

I did discover that it's an easier time with Acrobat XI Pro versus Acrobat Reader DC, although my preference for Reader DC is that it has a really nice interface in the Comments pane, very easy to read and deal with -- very user-friendly.

The Acrobat Pro counterpart is somewhat ugly and user-surly.

But I can live with using Acrobat Pro for the big files if I have to.

I was looking into the possibility of hosting these reviews on an internal SharePoint site, but it's my understanding that performance degrades there too with the larger files (although it sounds like the file has to be up closer to 1 GB). I'll probably experiment with that to see what happens.

We thought of moving the reviews to a TFS server but we don't need version control so I don't know the wisdom or even possibility of that. I guess I was just thinking of it as a faster resource.

This is part of what got me into the whole VM line of inquiry, because I was wondering if we ought to set up a VM somewhere for this purpose, but I guess it's no different than having a folder on a server, or having a separate physical machine that you log into remotely.

I'm confused, as you can tell.

Any light that can be shed by others who have trod this path would be most welcome.

Thanks so much for your help.

Steve
