Yep! Years ago the same software-dev manager who told our tech writers (in direct contradiction to company policy), "Anything you want to ask my engineers has to go through me," also told me privately how he enjoyed interviewing cute girls who wanted to be software engineers.

You should have been interviewing for that old "all great girls" guy's job. I'd not be surprised if there's someone in the upstairs office who wants him gone.
