I agree. And yet, document thinking dominates discussion (and research) on
document design. We do it this way even though we know very well that it is
not true. It is a holdover from the days of paper where hypertext thinking
was not practical. For reasons I find it hard to fathom, there remain as
huge reluctance to make hypertext thinking our default even though we all
know very well, and have known for decades, that document thinking is
completely at odds with the way that people actually do information seeking.
